NEW YORK,APRIL 17, 2018
Gone are the days when a wedding dress was all a bride needed to tie the knot. Now she also wants options for the rehearsal dinner, a second look for the reception, and one more for the recovery brunch, to name just a few of the events that make up the marathon of getting married. Tadashi Shoji’s Spring 2019 collection had virtually every occasion on the wedding calendar covered, and then some.
The lineup also touched on a few key trends, like pastels and removable skirts. Several gowns came in shades of soft blush, from a quietly sophisticated flutter-sleeve dress to a can’t-miss-it lace jumpsuit. There was also a metallic-stitched bodysuit with a tulle overskirt in the same shade of pink. This is the second season Shoji has included shapewear, and he built upon the idea with a lace slip and cutaway skirt you could wear during the ceremony, then remove in time for dancing. If the Tadashi Shoji bride also needs a dress for her bachelorette party, she’ll find several shorter options here, from an off-the-shoulder mini dusted with paillettes to a strapless body-con style with 3-D floral appliqués. Seeing as both were matched with floor-length gowns with similar details, it should make searching for the capital-D Dress that much easier.
